I’m so angry right now that I just want to murder someone. Where to begin?

This morning my boyfriend knocked over a large glass of soda onto my brand new laptop! I scurried to try and soak it up as quick as possible, but in doing so a towel snagged several keys and broke them off. Two snapped back on, three however are broken and won’t go back on. As far as I can tell, the laptop amazingly works fine. They keys are just broken. I normally use an attached keyboard to make sure any spills and mishaps happen not on the actual laptop. A lot of good that did today!

Good thing I got that accidental damage protection plan right? WRONG!

After calling another country and struggling to get the guy to understand anything I was saying, it turns out they had no records I bought such a protection plan. Funny, I can log into their website and see it. Yup, there it is! They wanted me to fax the order receipt and proof to some number or email it to them. Both the email and fax number DIDN’T WORK. Color me shocked.

I called back. Half way through the second call I just hung up because the woman could not speak English to save her life.

I then scoured the website for some way to just email them the issues. I did, but didn’t have much faith it would do good.

I called back thinking maybe the third time would be the charm. I at least got someone who spoke English well enough this time. Unfortunately they still have no record of my purchasing anything through them. Once again I need to email blah blah blah. This time I was told it would take 3 business days for them to update their records, so I should call back in 3 days. Excuse me?

ENOUGH!

Fortunately I got a return on my email query. Sure enough, I have to scan some document and get back to them to prove what I bought. Unbelievable. I will send them the email in the morning, though I’m also just going to call Best Buy and ask them if this is something they could possibly fix and how long it might take. I’d rather pay them at this point, though I did purchase this coverage plan for just such a case. Unfortunately it does me no good when nobody at the company can communicate properly.

One of my friends just told me to demand to speak to an American, if any where actually there. I really should have because that would have probably sped things up tremendously.

This whole thing is just really is ridiculous. When will companies stop outsourcing their support lines? What good does it do to pay these people cheaper wages when it turns people off and costs future customers?

I have half a mind to call their order department up, spend an hour placing one whopping large and complicated order only to start speaking gibberish when it gets to the billing part. Maybe then they’d know what it’s like to have a whole lot of their time wasted.

I wanted to watch the movie version of “Year Without A Santa Claus” tonight, instead I wasted about 3 hours trying to deal with this nonsense.

  1. And we stop for a moment and we gather ourselves up and we take a nice deep breath in – now hold it – and release!!

I guess we should not have drinks near the laptop? or restrict the BF to eating and drinking in the kitchen or at the table if he cannot be careful! But then again, where was the laptop at the moment said crime was committed?

Patience… Calm heads prevail – in all situations – even when speaking to foreign tech support. I find that when I get a call or make a call and a foreigner says hello, I choose to inquire if they speak English “fluently” if not then find someone who does.

This whole lap top debacle is a nightmare, and it is the holidays so get those papers in quickly because you know what happens this week don’t you? Me so sorry we on vacation till January!!

Hang in there Bud. You can clean up a spill, and reprimand the BF, maybe he needs a spill proof like the kiddies use!! Getting insane is not a pretty sight Dustin…

    God Grant Me Serenity!!!

  2. Funny you should mention this. Tonight Leno remarked that recent studies have shown that our condoms are too big for the men in India. He said to mention that the next time your out-sourced tech support gets snippy with you…

I hope everything works out for you, and soon!

  3. Surprisingly, however, the outsourced tech support gets paid American wages, and so a lot of college, master-holding people in India work at support lines because they get better pay that way than if they actually work in Engineering!

  4. Sad but true…after open heart surgery,I had gotten a computer(my first). After having SO MANY PROBLEMS with tech support, and non speaking service…I FINALLY TOLD THEM HEART SURGERY WAS M U C H easier recovering from then they were.

    Hang in there…..
