I have a little over a month to get a lot done. We leave for our cruise on January 18th (I think). I have about one month to lose 10-15 pounds so I can fit into my suit and not be uncomfortable. Yikes! Yes I could buy a new one, but that is beside the point as well as stupid. The only time I wear it is on the cruise once a year. I think I can easily drop the first ten pounds with no problem, just exercising and not eating junk. Those last five pounds might be tough!

I also have the same amount of time to write up a good number of dissertation chapters and turn in before I head off on the cruise, which is the start of the Spring semester. Double Yikes!

The problem with both of these goals is that they all take place over the dreaded holiday season. Thanksgiving – Christmas – New Years. Not the greatest time of the year to make a lot of progress on either front.

  1. There is one option to forcing yourself to diet through the holidays and constantly remind yourself that you are “weighty.” UGH what a nightmare. You could go to Moore’s and rent something for the week and be done with it, or maybe find a suit that you really like that might be no so expensive. It’s a Carnival cruise so tuxedos are not necessary. My suit doesn’t fit so loosely either after 2 years and 18 pounds later. But Moore’s does alterations here.

Sometimes simple changes in diet can get you there with a little exercise thrown in there, but if you are like me, I like my turkey dinner with all the spoils. The second solution I have for you is this, mix and match suit. Something old, something new, something borrowed, something Blue! Where can you get a nice jacket that will pair with some slacks and a tie? Shabby Sheik my love!!

A Carnival Cruise is supposed to be FUN not a hassle!

    Let’s see… two choices…

    1. Insanity and manic diets
    2. Sanity and suit solutions

I’d pick number 2 If I Were You!!

  2. “When the hell did Mary Poppins become a Christmas movie?”

When Disney bought ABC and started needing to cross-market into its new Broadway musical version of it.

A quick Googling also revelead a “20/20” special about the musical. Go figure.

Never look to bizarre explanations when simple capitalism will suffice. 🙂

Good luck with the diet. How ’bout some before-after-pictures? 😉

  3. I totally agree with Jeremy — pull together an outfit that works for you right now. Then enjoy the holidays and look forward to a wonderful cruise!
