I love all things Harry Potter. I really do. I have all the books and have all the movies. I can’t wait for the final installment to come out next year. However Harry Potter is not a Christmas movie and it irks me that ABC Family Channel treats it as one. Yes there are Christmas scenes in all the books and a few of the movies, but it’s not a huge part of the story. Why why why does ABC Family have to include these and play them to death during Christmas? There are so many other great specials they could acquire and play instead. How about all the Christmas Specials nobody plays anymore. Garfield? A Family Circus? I’m sure there are many more that have been lost in TV vaults out there.

  1. I completely agree with you! I couldn’t believe that a lot of the movies for abcfamily is going to be Harry Potter… I was completely bummed out!

Nice decorations by the way. Love them!

  2. I can’t believe I forgot all about the Garfield Christmas special! I loved that cartoon when I was younger. I also loved the one about the clock maker and the mouse… I am drawing a blank on the name of it. I would rather watch the oldies but goodies. However, it has been tradition since I was little, to wrap presents while watching scary movies. My brother started me on this when I was in grade school. And, I just finished wrapping St. Nick presents while watching the original “The Fog”. But I have tons of holiday spirit and my house is decorated from top to bottom… I swear:)

  3. Becky- the movie was “Twas the night before Christmas” and I loved that one too. There was one they used to show when I was really little that I loved. It was claymation and similar to The Little Drummer Boy. It was the story of a donkey, orphaned in a snow storm, who finds himself at the manger in the end. They stopped showing this before I hit my teens, but I would love to see it again.

At least A Charlie Brown Christmas, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, and Rudolf still make the airwaves…

But Harry Potter is not a Christmas movie, I agree.

  4. The mice are on tonight at 7pm 🙂 I’m sure they’ll repeat it though.

The Donkey one is Nestor, that should be on ABC sometime this month too 🙂

  5. Aravis- I always watched Nestor, too. And every year I would cry. I saw it last year on ABC Family, so I am sure they will show it again this year. Thank you for remiding me what the title was. I can’t believe I forgot it!! Must’ve been a mjaor blonde moment:) Dustin-thanks for the email, I saw it in time and was thrilled to watch it. Nothing like a good Christmas cartoon to make you feel like a kid again:)

  6. Because Harry Potter is a Kids Movie, and if millions of U.S. televisions are tuned into ABC family, they can get maximum ad potential for kids who want gifts and for parents who will buy them. Prime Viewing hours charge WAZOO prices for advertising. And isn’t Christmas all about the bottom dollar…

Harry Potter Merchandise makes millions every year so bringing HP into homes now just guarantees more return, and NEW business for Christmas. Not to mention the high end advertising shown during commercials.

    I have a HUGE H.P Collection too …
