So today was my first day at the Jersey Shore! It was interesting. We left around 8:30am-ish I believe, got there around 10am-ish. Originally we were going to Margate (Atlantic City area), but all these muscles washed up on shore there and made it smell very bad. So we ended up going to Ocean City instead. Cute little beach town, a little different than Nagshead, NC, the only real beach I’ve ever been to. We found parking and walked to the beach, we were at the end of the boardwalk, the deserted end. This was done on purpose, when we first got there the beach was pretty empty. It was early though. Jen and I soon took a walk along the boardwalk so I could see what it was all about. Far too many bike riders, but they had to stop by noon. By noon it got crowded, even our end of the beach was pretty packed. The boardwalk was basically gift shops, food shops, arcades and an amusement park at the end. Oh and a million different miniature golf courses. A lot of the gift shops sold these hermit crabs whose shells had been painted. You could pick one and put it in a little cage as a pet. Um, yeah okay, fun till it dies and smells. I guess you get to keep the colorful shell as a souvenir? They were painted with everything you could think of, mickey mouse, power rangers etc. Big among the beach crowd was digging deep holes in the sand, not building sand castles. Dig dig dig till you reach water or till the tide reaches and fills your hole. What fun!

We left around 2pm, it was packed and we were hot. The water was also freezing. We decided we would take more advantage of it, we’d plan a few Saturdays to come out for the day. In September after the tourist season is over we are going down where one friend’s aunt has a house we can stay in. The place will be much quieter, no tourists, kids in school and the water is perfectly warm having been warmed all summer long. Oh and yes, we will be digging the biggest hole ever!
