Today was a beautifully sunny day here in Virginia. It would have been perfect for a test drive, to bad my mom decided she didn’t want to go with me! Grr. I think at this point the car gods are conspiring against me and perhaps I should give up this idea of buying a car for awhile. Given I keep going on/planning these weekend getaways, perhaps I should put the car off for awhile. I dunno, I did send some emails out to dealers for quotes. One person was calling me within five minutes in spite of the fact that I said it is best to email. Another person called and wanted me in tomorrow for a test drive. I said I was out of town and right now I was just looking for quotes. She couldn’t do that without me coming in. Yeah sorry honey, you lost this customer.
I brought all these movies home to watch, but haven’t done so. Two of them are subtitled and I have no desire to read late at night. Plus I’m usually chatting online with friends and it’s too difficult to follow. Today my mom and I did finally watch “Underworld Evolution.” It was okay, not as good as the original though.
Met up with Keith for dinner tonight at the yummy Cheesecake Factory. Oh lord that was an experience! Kieth used to be the manager at the store, he’s good friends with the general manager and knows a lot of people who still work there. Well tonight was an off night, the ball was being dropped left and right. It was hilarious watching what was going on, the scrambling, the calls, the conversations. To make matters worse some big shot restaurant guy showed up as well. Oh dear, I wouldn’t want to work there come tomorrow!
We discussed personal stuff over dinner and then talked about next years cruise, where we might want to go and for how long. Last year we went on an 8 day cruise leaving from Ft. Lauderdale (this is where I met Keith). Never again will we leave out of that port! Not only was the weather pretty terrible most of the trip, but the entire boat was filled with very very old people. Even the people who worked on the ship said it was an unusual amount of older people. Maybe it was just a fluke, I don’t know. I generally didn’t have much fun in Ft. Lauderdale to begin with (let’s so not get into that though). We discussed where we might want to leave out of (Miami, Orlando, Tampa, somewhere fun) and where we want to go, what we want out of a ship, etc. I’m looking at cruises now, he’s going to do the same. We have to get this sucker booked soon as prices go up the longer you wait. Hopefully this will be my “I’m Done With School!” vacation.
The new Nintendo DS comes out tomorrow and I want it. I love my gameboy, I play it more than anything else right now (mainly cause I don’t have to get up from my PC, how lazy is that). If I muster up to go get one in the morning (before they sell out) I’m giving my old one to my brother. If I do get out of bed earlier enough and there is a line of fanboys outside the store then I don’t need one that bad, I am not waiting in a line for a videogame system. There will be more next week. Truth be told I shouldn’t buy it AT ALL, I can be putting my money towards much better things.
I am also pondering getting one of these iTrips for my iPod, they let you play your iPod through the car radio. Anyone tried one? Do they work? I don’t like bringing stacks of CD’s in the rental cars with me, but always have my iPod. I thought this would be a good solution so I don’t have to listen to the garbage on the radio. Plus if I’m not buying that car, I see a lot more rental car rentals in my future for going to and from Virginia. Avis, by the way, has an iTunes program, every car you rent earns you free downloads.

I have a similar product to the iTrip…but it is made by ‘Monster’ and I am really happy with it. I opted for it because it actually comes with a power adapter that goes into the cigarette lighter so you don’t use your battery while listening to tunes. I did some research before I bought and the Monster brand seemed to have better reviews than the iTrip. That’s my opinion…Happy Shopping!
Maybe the fact that you can’t get someone to go with you car shopping isn’t a sign you shouldn’t do it. Maybe it is a sign you should make this decision on your own, afterall YOU are the one who is going to be paying for and owning the car! You’ve done the research, have an idea already what you want, now go look!
Here is a used car shopping tip. Always tell the sales people you have a little less to spend than you actually do. Say you have 12,000 put aside, tell them you have 11,000. Test drive those ticketed for 12,000 and tell them that you really like it but only have 11,000. Usually the salesman will go in back room to “discuss it with the boss” then he will come back and give it to you for the price you want.
All used cars are negotiable in price!
As for the iPod, I got this thing ($20 at Best Buy) that you plug into the ipod speaker jack and then it has a thing that looks like a cassette tape and you insert it into the car tape player and you get the iPod through the radio speakers. It works really well.
