This weekend I’ve been playing around with the webcam feature I added to the page. Originally it was just a static image that updated every 60 seconds while I was online. Pretty easy to implement. However, I decided like Tim Allen that I wanted "More Power."
I found a site called CamStreams that would let me stream live video from my camera to them and they would broadcast it. I could also put the feed on any site I wanted. The only issue was that they seem to be having major problems with their service affecting some of their customers. As luck would have it, I seemed to be one affected and therefore getting their server to pick up my camstream has been near impossible. They say it should be fixed by the end of this week, we’ll see.
I have since found a cute little program called WincamXP that allows me to broadcast live video or upload static images like I was doing before. The only problem is that it has the bad habit of cutting off my wireless connection, especially when I go to my own blog and it’s searching for a signal for my cam from my PC! I have 20 days left trial before I have to pay a small fee to keep using it.
So over the next week I’ll probably be switching back and forth between the different webcam streams while I decide which one works best. Oh, it’s hard not to do thinks like pick you nose when your on camera!
