I try and stay far far away from religious talk on most of my sites, because whenever you bring it up, you usually insult someone. However religion is making its way into the news and TV not as a political hot button issue, but as historical information.
From Yahoo News
Judas Iscariot, vilified as Christ’s betrayer, acted at Jesus’ request in turning him over to the authorities who crucified him, according to a 1,700-year-old copy of the "Gospel of Judas" unveiled on Thursday. In an alternative view to traditional Christian teaching, the Judas gospel shows the reviled disciple as the only one in Jesus’ inner circle who understood his desire to shed his earthly body.
"He’s the good guy in this portrayal," said Bart Ehrman, a religion professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. "He’s the only apostle who understands Jesus."
The Gospel of Judas was found in Egypt and recently translated. It will be published by National Geographic and will be on display in Washington DC for awhile before being moved to Egypt. I so want to go see this next time I’m back in Virginia.
Meanwhile, ABC is going to be airing a new miniseries version of "The Ten Commandments " next week. Don’t worry, they are showing the old version as well. I intend to watch both, as I love the original movie. The new one is set to cause a bit of controversy though. It is said to try and stick to the bible more accurately, but also include elements of the story that are written into Egyptian history but not in the bible. It will be interesting to see how it unfolds. I recently saw an archeology special on Moses and his life and what many scholars believed actually happened. It was very interesting! For example they don’t think he crossed the Red Sea, but a lake known as the Reed Sea. Moses was able to navigate his people across the marshy swamp while the Egyptians horses and chariots were not able to cross and sank into the marsh waters.
Okay, enough history for today 🙂
