I love horror films, love them to death (pun intended.). The title of this post is taken from a classic B-horror flick actually. I’m not sure why I like them so much really, but I always have. I guess there is just something about scaring yourself. The fact that my own house is haunted makes watching them even more frighting, but I’ll tell that tale another time 🙂

Last night I watched “The Ring 2.” I didn’t love it. I actually saw this film in the theaters and wasn’t that impressed. I only rented it because the DVD said “Unrated Version! Never before seen scenes!” I don’t think anything was added at all. I am expecting the Japanese version from Netflix any day now and am hoping it will be better. Unlike the first Ring film, “Ring 2” was not a remake of the Japanese version.

If your wondering why American movie makers keep re-making these Japanese and Asian films, it’s because we’ve obviously run out of ideas. Seriously, everything is a remake nowadays! We just had a remake of “The Amytiville Horror,” and soon one of my favorite movies of all time hits the theaters via a remake, “The Fog.” I don’t have high hopes for it. Though “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” does look good I will say.

If your a horror movie fan like me, you’d do well to start renting some Japanese and Asian films as most of them truly are good and creepy. There is often a slight issue understanding what is going on because of cultural differences, but you can get the gist of it. The Japanese version of “The Ring” for instance made a whole lot more sense than the American remake, and they told you exactly who Samara was and where she came from in film one!

Some good Japanese/Asian horror films to check out . . . .

The Eye – plays on cable regularly, about restless spirits
The Eye 2 – caution girls, you may not want to have a baby after this one
Ringu – The original, much better storyline
Ju On: The Grudge – The original, again a better more complete storyline (but more confusing than the remake!)
Koma – Creepy tale about the urban legend of kidney theft
Infection – This ones about karma and is a bit gory
